The Greatest Competitive Advantage Is Not Your Product
When you look at most markets today, one thing becomes clear.
Products are becoming increasingly similar. Technology is more accessible. Production is faster. Inspiration is everywhere. What was considered unique just a few years ago can now be copied by competitors within months.
Having a better product is often no longer enough. And perhaps it never mattered as much as we once thought.
Because people don't buy products. They buy what those products bring into their lives.
They buy a feeling. A solution. Peace of mind. Trust. An experience. They buy how a brand makes them feel.
That is why people often choose a brand that is not the cheapest, the fastest, or even the technically best. They choose the brand they have built a relationship with. And that is where true competitive advantage begins. Not in the product. In the relationship.
In a world where almost everything can be copied, the most valuable assets are the ones that cannot.
- Trust
- Reputation
- Community
- Emotion
- Story
These are assets that take years to build. And that is exactly why they are so valuable.
I believe many companies still spend too much time thinking about how to create a better and more efficient product and too little time thinking about how to build a stronger relationship with their customers. Because loyal customers who have developed a connection with a brand naturally continue to choose its products.
Customers rarely remember every product feature. What they remember is how they felt. They remember how they were treated. They remember the experience. And today, experience has become part of the product itself. From the moment someone searches for a product, through their interactions with a store or an online shop, all the way to their own experience using it at home.
In the following years, the brands that win will not necessarily be the ones with the best products. They will be the ones that build the strongest relationships with their customers.
Because competitors can copy your product. They cannot copy your relationship.
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing end to the week - and most importantly, stay cool during these incredibly hot summer days.
